Frequently asked questions
High Intensity Support, as defined by the NDIS, is a category of support services designed for individuals with significant and complex needs. It is specifically tailored for NDIS participants who require a high level of assistance and intervention to achieve their goals and enhance their quality of life. This support is intended for those whose disabilities or conditions demand extensive and specialized care.
Eligibility for High Intensity Support is determined on a case-by-case basis by the NDIS. It is generally provided to individuals with severe disabilities or complex care requirements, which may include significant medical, behavioral, or daily living support needs. Eligibility is assessed through the NDIS planning process, where the participant’s specific circumstances and support needs are carefully evaluated.
High Intensity Support may encompass a wide range of services, including but not limited to personal care, complex medical procedures, behavior management, therapy, and assistance with daily living activities. The goal is to provide comprehensive support that is tailored to the participant’s unique requirements.
To access High Intensity Support under the NDIS, you should begin by contacting the National Disability Insurance Agency (NDIA). The process involves an initial assessment of your eligibility and support needs, followed by the development of a personalized NDIS plan that outlines the specific supports and services required to meet your goals and enhance your well-being.
High Intensity Support plans are not static and can be reviewed and adjusted as needed. The NDIS acknowledges that participants’ needs may change over time, and plans can be modified to ensure that the support remains appropriate and effective. Regular plan reviews provide an opportunity to address evolving requirements and ensure that participants receive the necessary level of assistance.
