Frequently asked questions
Finding and Keeping a Job (FAKAJ) is a dedicated funding provision within the NDIS, designed for eligible participants seeking to enter the workforce.
Much akin to Disability Employment Services, individuals with Finding and Keeping a Job included in their plan can access the expertise of qualified employment consultants and support professionals. These resources are aimed at enhancing and developing the necessary skills to both secure and maintain employment.
After your NDIS funding is approved, you’ll be given the opportunity to choose a provider to assist you with capacity building and job-seeking activities. It’s important to be aware that not all NDIS providers can offer services related to finding and keeping a job – they must also be a registered Disability Employment Services provider, such as breakthru.
Once you’ve made your selection, you can access support for various job-seeking activities, including:
- Engaging in vocational activities
- Securing work experience opportunities
- Receiving on-the-job training and support
Additionally, you can work on key skills development, which may encompass:
Time management
Travel skills
Money management
Assistance in obtaining industry-specific qualifications, such as:
- White Card
- Responsible Service of Alcohol (RSA)
- Responsible Service of Gambling (RSG)
Depending on your funding level and employment objectives, our support staff are available to work with you on-site to ensure you feel comfortable and well-supported while at work.
To qualify for the Finding and Keeping a Job program, you must initially meet the criteria of being an eligible NDIS participant. When you’re in the process of applying for your NDIS plan or during your review period, it’s essential to express your ambition to secure and maintain employment.
Though not mandatory, you have the option to request formal written documentation from your educational institution, outlining any recommended capacity-building activities. If this is not feasible, you can also approach your current disability services provider to provide an impact statement or seek a letter of recommendation from your chosen medical practitioner to strengthen your case.
